Wendy Maguire Physiotherapy and Pilates News
UPDATE - FRIDAY 11 SEPTEMBER 2020
Good morning everyone,
With regard to the latest announcements made yesterday and bearing in mind the recent countrywide increases in coronavirus cases, I have made the difficult decision to suspend all classes until January next year. I am bound by professional guidelines to make sure that all participants are safe and this is currently not financially viable for me at all, as well as not forgetting the concerns of my colleagues at the Clinic.
Once again, I am indebted to you all for your support in the past. However, please be assured that I will not take offence if you are able to find other classes which may be able to offer a larger venue and thus more space for safety.
MONDAY 24 AUGUST 2020
Just to keep you all updated, following a meeting with the Clinic Directors last week, they raised a number of concerns regarding patient safety and increased footfall at the Clinic, so I am sorry to let you know that classes are not likely to resume before the END OF SEPTEMBER. Apologies for getting everyone's hopes up for an earlier start, but these concerns are valid, as I'd hate to be responsible for having to close the Clinic due to contact tracing.
Take care everyone.
Following the latest change in lockdown restrictions with pupils returning to schools tomorrow, I have had a number of queries regarding the resumption of Pilates classes. However, I draw your attention to the latest information on the Scottish government website which states that FROM Monday 14 September 2020:
"Gyms (indoor) can re-open following relevant guidance including on physical distancing and enhanced hygiene. We will keep this under review to consider whether an earlier re-opening date is feasible."
At present, the guidance states that for every participant in an exercise class, the minimum area that should be available PER PERSON is 9 sq m - if you had to think about the area of the gym hall at the Border Physio Clinic, this means that the maximum number of people permitted to attend a class is 4. Obviously, this makes booking and planning of classes extremely difficult. We are also using the gym area as a thoroughfare for the one-way system at present to ensure the safety of all patients currently attending for physiotherapy, which will impact on class times as well.
I ask you all to bear these important points in mind when considering the possible resumption of classes. I will contact you to let you know as soon as possible when we are hopefully able to get moving again. In the meantime, enjoy dipping into the half hourly sessions if you have them - I've been enjoying being a participant and not a teacher for a change!
Stay well and safe, everyone!
IMPORTANT REMINDER RE PILATES PRODUCTS
Please note that if you would like to purchase any Pilates products (eg. mats, cushions, spiky balls or any other Pilates equipment or clothing) from the APPI website www.appihealthgroup.com please use this link - https://shop.appihealthgroup.com/?ref=69 which enables me to gain a small percentage of sales generated.
Thank you in anticipation
Please note that as from today, 18/03/2020, we have taken the decision that all classes at the clinic are cancelled in line with official guidelines. Apologies and hope to see you all back at classes soon.
Thank you so much for all your support.
INFORMATION ON COVID-19
I would like to clarify that in line with the current situation with the coronavirus (also known as Covid-19), the health and well-being of all clients remains a top priority. To this end, I want to reassure you all that all mats and equipment are regularly cleaned to maintain the highest standards of good hygiene practice and I will continue to do so. However, if anyone feels they would prefer to bring their own mats and/or cushions or hand towels for use under the head, I am more than happy to accommodate this.
Also, please could I ask that if you are feeling unwell or are generally worried about the current situation, please do not hesitate to let me know and I fully understand if you would prefer to limit attendance to classes at this time.
For those of you still planning to come to classes, we are asking that you wash your hands before the class and/or use the hand sanitiser gels that will be placed around the clinic.
Thank you for your understanding and support at this difficult time.
A reminder about how the classes work:
- for anyone who hasn't attended my classes before and would like to have a go, here are some details regarding the book-a-space (drop-in) classes. For those of you unsure about how this works, I request that you contact me either by text, mobile phone or email to book a place and my phone is available for bookings FROM 8 AM ON MONDAY MORNINGS. These classes are charged at £8 per class. Could I ask that you please ALWAYS put your name at the end of your text messages as I don't keep a record of everybody's individual phone numbers, many thanks.
For anybody thinking about trying Pilates, I'd recommend a one-to-one session first to get an idea of the concept behind Pilates, as well as the Basic Principles which can be quite tricky to master initially. Once you've had some practise, it's all a lot easier!
Please contact me on 07747432418 for any queries.
FEEDBACK FROM A CLIENT:
Personally, it is a minor miracle that I enjoy Pilates very much. Exercise is not my first love but your Pilates has changed me. I very much look forward to the classes and like the way new exercises are introduced. The encouragement from you is really appreciated as well as the care you take that none of us hurt ourselves. Over the weeks I have gained a huge amount of strength and confidence which was sadly lacking before I came to you. My friends have commented on my changing body shape (unsolicited) and more than one person has said “you’re glowing!” Thank you so much! MH
